Women of St. Francis

Women make approximately 80% percent of the healthcare decisions for their families, and we are proud to sponsor a group of ladies who are determined to be informed, proactive and generous about healthcare.

A virtuous woman . . . she opens her arms to the poor, and extends her hands to the needy. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future." --Proverbs 31: 10, 20, 25

Over 125 women from the community have joined the Women of St. Francis, a philanthropic group of ladies from the community. The ladies’ activities include:

  • Quarterly luncheons with Physicians featuring topics specific to women's health issues
  • Creating the annual Pearls & Pumps event to support the Pearlie Harris Breast Center.
  • Giving over $52,000 to support women's and children's programs at Bon Secours St. Francis in the past 4 years.

In their annual grants meeting, the ladies select a need at Bon Secours St. Francis to support using their annual membership dues. The ladies have expressed this mission statement: “The purpose of the Women of St. Francis is to use our God-given talents and resources as we educate the community and enhance the quality of women’s health.”

“As the wife and daughter of a physician, I am passionate about the health care needs of women in our community and have partnered with the ministry at St. Francis for years. These priorities have naturally led me to seek out organizations such as the Women of Saint Francis where I have formed meaningful relationships with other like-minded women.  We work together to educate and equip women to take responsibility for their own personal good health as well as that of their families.”

–Sally Russell

"Being a member of the Women of  St. Francis is much more than a social group or gathering. It is an opportunity for women in the community to support the healing ministry of Jesus Christ for our sisters and brothers in need."

--Pearlie Harris

"Since joining the Women of St. Francis I have met remarkable women in diverse industries who all share a common concern for healthy lifestyle advocacy. The informative programs offered several times a year address issues that effect women in my workplace, my community, my church and my family. I enjoy sharing and networking with these women. The programs offered by St. Francis enable me to be a better friend and encourager to people in my path."
